Traditional food tour – Lisbon

Embark on a flavorful journey through Portugal’s rich culinary heritage with Iberactive’s Traditional Food Tour.

With our Portuguese traditional food tour, we aim to provide an introduction to traditional Portuguese gastronomy.

We’ll explore a variety of appetizers, visit iconic places off the traditional tourist circuit, delve into the origins of this cuisine, and uncover intriguing facts related to specific foods or dishes.

Picture two friends in Lisbon, both Portuguese locals, agreeing to explore those truly traditional spots known only to insiders and indulge in some delightful appetizers. Indeed, this is the best way to describe our tour.

Important: this tour will take place in Lisbon.

What do we need to know from you for the food tour?

In addition to knowing when and the size of the group, there are two crucial pieces of information we need to have.

Firstly, we’d like to know about any dietary restrictions or preferences you may have.

Whether you avoid meat, fish, pork, or have any other specifications, it’s not a problem as there’s ample variety to accommodate these conditions.

However, there are some known limitations. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate vegetarian or vegan preferences because they fall outside the realm of traditional Portuguese gastronomy.

Secondly, since the tour includes either lunch or dinner, along with other snacks during the journey, we need to know your preference.

If you choose lunch, the tour will commence at 10 am and conclude at 6 pm.

Opting for dinner means the tour starts at 2 pm and ends at 10 pm.

What can you expect on this food tour?

Regardless of your choice concerning lunch or dinner, you’ll embark on an imaginary journey into the origins and reasons behind Portuguese gastronomy.

  • Ever wondered about the origin of the famous pastel de nata?
  • Or why Portuguese people have such a fondness for cod, a fish not found in their coastal waters?
  • What is ‘ginjinha,’ and where does it come from?

These questions and more will be answered, with examples to taste, during this tour.

Please note that this tour involves walking, but we’ll also travel by car.

Walking aids digestion and allows us to access locations close to each other or in areas challenging to reach by car.

Car rides are necessary because some of the places we’ll visit are outside the tourist zone, often favored by locals.

What are we excluding?

As part of this gastronomic tour, we’ve excluded visits to gourmet or Michelin-starred restaurants, as we believe such experiences do not require our guidance.

While wine won’t be the central focus of this specific tour, complimentary glasses of house wine are included during various tastings.

Of course, you’re free to explore other wine options independently, with the guide available to assist in your choice.
